The image of the growing seed is one that we find throughout the Holy Scriptures. The seed is a metaphor for emergent faith; a sign of the Kingdom of God breaking into our world. Beginning as a 'small seed', our Lord Jesus became incarnate in the virginal womb of His Blessed Mother, Mary.
Through His Ministry, Death and Resurrection Jesus has brought about the salvation of the nations. We look forward to that final harvest when God will be all in all, when God's Kingdom comes in all its fullness.
Our vision for this year's conference is that it will be a sign, like the seed sown by the Sower, of God's Kingdom among us - a seed planted in the soil of expectant faith, which we trust will grow into a strong tree.
We intend the Northern Catholic Conference 2010 to be a reassurance of God's presence in our region, and in our world; for those who are tired or hungry and in need of spiritual refreshment. As a celebration of our faith and our life together we envision the Conference as a haven where Catholics and all those who seek the Lord with a sincere heart, may be inspired, supported and evangelised by God's Living Word.
We hope and pray that through this time of teaching, conversation, reflection, fellowship, intercession and healing - culminating in the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist - all may be able to come to that profession of personal faith made by St. Peter when he said to the Lord Jesus: 'You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God' (Matthew 16).
